Now in its 45th year of selling books, cards, and gifts to the wonderful readers of Boston, Brookline Booksmith is a neighborhood independent bookstores with thousands of old and new books, squeaky wooden floors, and a staff who love to talk about their favorite books. You can pick your next page-turner from the Essential Reads case - a shelf full of books the staff very nearly demand you read, the tables of new, in-demand paperbacks, or just by meandering through the aisles.

Great location and wonderful, friendly staff! Books are well organized and easy to get to! Nice gifts, too!
I have been a loyal customer of The Booksmith for over 30 years. IF they do not have something in stock, they go out of their way to obtain it. Many times, those who work behind the desk will see what I am purchasing and ask if I know about other similar--or not!!!--books! I have never been misdirected in trying something new!
Great selection. jewelry section is fun and stylish and the prices are incredible. fun gifts. great vibe.
staff is superb
wonderful selection of books, I always walk out with a dozen books or so, a treat, always !
I wish they were closer. It is worth the trip and the sales tax!! The selection and customer service are unrivalled. They are the best!!
Great service, staffed by people who read, and they listen to their customers and take suggestions.
I love Brookline Booksmith! The booksellers are fabulously helpful and always offer great suggestions. The books are organized in interesting displays, and the used bookseller is one of my favorite places to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon. Not to mention the great author events the store puts on frequently....what more could you ask for?
People think that independent bookstores are more expensive, but if you've ever checked out the bargain book tables at Brookline Booksmith, you know it's not true. Also, a great selection of kids' books. Keep up the great work, guys.
Always a great selection and really great hours, open early, stay open late. Lisa J.
We need more independent bookstores in this world, and the Booksmith is a prime example. Thank you for your variety, sales, knick knacks, author reading events and all you give to the community!
Great selection, knowledgeable staff, hilarious newsletter. Love the Wellesley store too!
a wonderful, independent bookstore that has survived 45 years as the world turns.
Friendly people. Cozy atmosphere and most important great books and let's not forget the amazing readings.
Wonderful selection. Newsletters that I look forward to and save to read again. Great suggestions of what to read. Terrific in-store service. What a bookstore should be!
I love having this bookstore in my neighborhood - the staff is very helpful and my dogs love the fact they hand out treats!
Brookline Booksmith practically wrote the manual on making a bookstore great ~ amazing books, unforgettable guest speakers, atmosphere and heart! ~ the creaky wooden floor is the icing on the cake!

Brookline Booksmith is a 45 yr old wonder in the independent bookstore world. It has anything an indie buyer might want.
...A wonderful place for book lovers...Just a fabulous buzz about the place. A better pick-me-up than a coffee from the Starbucks next door!
simply the best bookstore on the planet.
great selection, terrific staff, warm and cozy atmosphere, late hours, who could as for more.!!
A "real" bookstore! Great staff, very helpful and knowledgeable. Lots of ambiance.
not only knowledgeable and helpful staff but a wonderful variety of seasonal gifts greet you. i love the postcards and cards that inspire me to contact friends. i am always impressed by the breadth and frequency of guest writers - makes the creative process very real.
The folks who work there are friendly and knowledgeable. They are readers themselves!
The very courteous staff is knowledgeable about their product. You can describe a book having forgot the Title and Author and they will know it. Discuss it with a staff person to decide if you want to buy it. They help you find an obscure book not just point to an aisle. It is a very, comfortable warm, welcoming atmosphere. You can spend several hours there, a great deal of money and fell as if you have made an investment in your mind and soul. Very few bookstores have so much Judaica, philosophy and great art books. Also a good collection of mysteries and fiction as well as currently popular books are always available. One of the best websites in the book world is the 'Booksmith'. It's weekly arrival feels so personal while it is informative and funny. It has often pointed out books I might never have read. I love the Book Club since my town does not seem to support one, one can just read and drop in for spicy, interesting discussions. Most do this on line and the full flavor is lost. I hope and pray this wonderful independent bookstore stays exactly where it is, is always open and keeps the atmosphere that has me on the road driving in from the North Shore -Just for a book. One I can buy elsewhere but not with such caring and a smile. Number One Book Store in Boston.
Even though I moved out of Brookline and into Cambridge, I still make the trek over to the BB--I love this bookstore that much!
independently owned. great selection of books. wonderful staff always very helpful.
Since childhood I have enjoyed Booksmith. It has always had that small hometown feeling and I can find what I am looking for. The staff is always helpful and courteous. The book signings and lectures have been a great way to connect to the community and discover new books and learn new things.
Booksmith is the best now and has been for years. It's not a big box Border's and the staff actually reads. Cute gifts as well. The only improvement would be to expand it!
