this is my business

Now in its 45th year of selling books, cards, and gifts to the wonderful readers of Boston, Brookline Booksmith is a neighborhood independent bookstores with thousands of old and new books, squeaky wooden floors, and a staff who love to talk about their favorite books. You can pick your next page-turner from the Essential Reads case - a shelf full of books the staff very nearly demand you read, the tables of new, in-demand paperbacks, or just by meandering through the aisles.

I have been a loyal customer of The Booksmith for over 30 years. IF they do not have something in stock, they go out of their way to obtain it. Many times, those who work behind the desk will see what I am purchasing and ask if I know about other similar--or not!!!--books! I have never been misdirected in trying something new!

I love Brookline Booksmith! The booksellers are fabulously helpful and always offer great suggestions. The books are organized in interesting displays, and the used bookseller is one of my favorite places to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon. Not to mention the great author events the store puts on frequently....what more could you ask for?

People think that independent bookstores are more expensive, but if you've ever checked out the bargain book tables at Brookline Booksmith, you know it's not true. Also, a great selection of kids' books. Keep up the great work, guys.

The very courteous staff is knowledgeable about their product. You can describe a book having forgot the Title and Author and they will know it. Discuss it with a staff person to decide if you want to buy it. They help you find an obscure book not just point to an aisle. It is a very, comfortable warm, welcoming atmosphere. You can spend several hours there, a great deal of money and fell as if you have made an investment in your mind and soul. Very few bookstores have so much Judaica, philosophy and great art books. Also a good collection of mysteries and fiction as well as currently popular books are always available. One of the best websites in the book world is the 'Booksmith'. It's weekly arrival feels so personal while it is informative and funny. It has often pointed out books I might never have read. I love the Book Club since my town does not seem to support one, one can just read and drop in for spicy, interesting discussions. Most do this on line and the full flavor is lost. I hope and pray this wonderful independent bookstore stays exactly where it is, is always open and keeps the atmosphere that has me on the road driving in from the North Shore -Just for a book. One I can buy elsewhere but not with such caring and a smile. Number One Book Store in Boston.
