This is my favorite coffee shop -- the ceilings are low, the interior relatively simple, but the coffee is just amazing. The full table service is rare for a coffee shop, but I like it -- the waiters are never stuffy and always know their coffee. They have a menu full of international coffees -- my favorite is the cafe au lait. During the summer, the patio seating is impossible to beat.
Tasty hot drinks & snacks, with a good selection of healthful food options. Friendly & helpful staff. Nice sunny south-facing windows. Comfortable "lived in" sort of atmosphere.
It's one of the only places I know that will make European-style hot chocolate, which is the way I like it: with unsweetened cocoa powder. (Most other places make hot chocolate that tastes like it's from a commercial powdered mix, that is, far too sweet.)
Way to go, 1369!
Diesel is not your typical coffee shop -- first of all it's huge -- enough space that you can find somewhere to be loud, somewhere to be study, somewhere to relax. They have tons of boardgames (although most are missing pieces). Add in great drinks and of course great food (desserts!) and you've got the best coffee shop in Boston. In Somerville!
Their breakfast is magical. Get the vegetarian: 3 scrambled eggs, sauteed veggies (SO GOOD), homefries, toast, french toast, and fresh fruit. Make sure you're sitting at a table because it doesn't fit on the counter. You will not move all Saturday but you'll be back for more on Sunday.
