Finished nine years before the Civil War and opened in 1852, The Music Hall, now named the Orpheum Theatre has played host to some of the world's most renowned musical talents. As the birthplace of The New England Conservatory and The Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Orpheum boasts such events as the premiere of Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto and lectures by Booker T. Washington and Ralph Waldo Emerson. The Orpheum Theatre is accessible to persons using wheelchairs. theatre is located in a private alley, and there are no handicapped spaces, but there is an area for drop-off in front of theatre.
