Schneider's has been a family business since 1949. Started by their grandfather and father with only two employees, their mother and grandmother, they now have eight full-time experts in the wine department. Their exquisite wine collection boasts 1961 Chateau Petrus to 1999 Chateau Gaillard Touraine with at least 12,000 other wines in between. Their wines are stored in a temperature-controlled warehouse.

They are knowledgeable and listen to you, the customer. If you're looking for a $12 bottle of wine, they don't try to sell you the $15 one. They treat you well whether you're buying a case, or just a bottle.

The store is awesome - it reminds you of an old time hardware store with its selections going all the way up to the 11 foot ceilings. Everyone working there is adept at pointing you to the best selections for your special meal or event. We keep coming back for the service and the selection!

The Staff at Scheider's are always willing and able to help you make the right selection. They always recommend great selections. And even though it is not in the store's interest to do so, the Staff always tells you when the less expensive option is really better than what you have picked out. Schneider's is a truly classy and respectable operation.

They offer fantastic recommendations based on your taste and price range. They don't try to upsell a more expensive bottle of wine just to make the sale. They know that satisfying the customer (providing an appropriate recommendation) will bring more return business than pressuring them into a more expensive purchase. Very friendly and knowledgeable.

Schneider's has quickly become my favorite wine store on Capitol Hill! I've stopped in quite a few times and every time staff is welcoming and helpful. It is a great place to not only look for what you're familiar with but to explore new tastes with the guidance of the wine-loving staff. Schneider's is definitely a place for the wine connoisseur AND the emerging vino-phile.

Proprietors Rick and Jon are knowledgeable, welcoming, friendly and helpful. The staff is alert and courteous. The tasting room on Saturday afternoons is a great place to hang out and try some great wines. All in all, Schneider's is the best wine shop in the DC area.

Rick and Jon Genderson are wine connoisseurs of the first order. Rick can taste with the masters and can name and date vintages and has even beaten the so called experts. Their store is small, but they carry many wonderful wines from many countries and they are truly wonderful salesmen and allow people to taste the wines they want to buy.

They are all very knowledgeable about the wines, they don't talk down to clients, and if I tell them my price range is $10-$20 they don't look at me like I'm wasting their time. The wine selection is outstanding and they have been able to custom order wines for me for special gifts or occasions.

They have not once failed to help me select a great bottle of wine. The staff is so knowledgeable and helpful that I am always confident I've left with something that I will enjoy!

Top on our list is the unabashed enthusiasm of Jon and Rick for sharing new wine buys and/or educating customers to move beyond 'their usuals'. These are wonderful guys and expert in what they sell. We've relied on Schneider's for more than 20 years now; never been anything but highly pleased with their knowledge, service, friendly staff - altogether a great place for tasting/testing/buying great wines.

Excellent staff. While they are happy to sell you the expensive, trendy wines, they are also eager to help you find cheaper alternatives. They all have passion about wine and it definitely shows.

Jon and Rick Genderson are knowledgeable, have unique wines, are generous, and are just great guys to buy wine from. They have great deals and inventory reduction sales. They have a terrific cellar full of old gems at very good prices as well. I also have to say that I trust them from a palate perspective as they definitely seek out great wines.

Rick & Jon are very knowledgeable, have wonderful tastings in the very "intimate" tasting area. There's an extremely eclectic clientele -- always interesting. It's so much fun to go there on a Saturday afternoon that some of us go in from Virginia (where we pay far less tax) and buy from Rick and Jon because we trust them -- AND we have FUN.

Every time I visit I leave with exactly what I need even if I didn't know what I wanted when I came. I can go in and tell them what I am making for dinner and they pair it to a tee. I also feel as if we have been in the neighborhood for years even though we have lived here for just over a year. The staff is extremely helpful and will even carry your purchase to your car.

Excellent collection for all tastes. Fine wines for those who can afford them, excellent moderate wines for those of us who must shop that end of the continuum. The owners take the effort to find specials, closeouts and classics for the broad tastes of Capitol Hill residents. Plus the friendly presence of the owners indicates top-level management concern with the business.

Exceptional service goes with the great selection of wine and spirits. Can't find it, no problem. It can be ordered and in your hands in days. I have yet to have a bad recommendation in the 10 years I have been going. It is the only place I will go.

The "BEST" selections of wine for all occasions. The "BEST" service of any specialty store that I have ever been in. They always have time for the customer - whether you are buying a $10 bottle of wine or a case of $100 bottles. They know their wines and are willing to take the extra time to educate and inform.

Rick and Jon Genderson and their staff know wine and know their customers. We have been shopping there for 25 years and I can think of few occasions in which they've steered me to a wine that was not to my taste. When my husband and I were married almost 20 years ago, we registered at Schneider's. We sampled a wide range of wines that Rick and Jon suggested (vintages, grapes, origins) and let them know our favorites. They then guided our family and friends to wines within their price range. Most were wines we could open on anniversaries. We finished the last of the bottles on our 15th anniversary. We also appreciate the wine tastings that Schneider's organizes--they have allowed us to taste fantastic wines and see how they pair with first class dishes. Shopping at Schneider's is always a treat and we always find good value and good tasting wines.
