Integrity and dedication in the teaching. This is not about instant gratification but about the patient process of learning correctly and thoroughly. And THAT gives you so much more than just a yoga class...
best trained, most demanding and caring instructors push students to new levels of fitness and awareness
Unity Woods has been around for over 25 years, and its founder, John Schumacher still teaches a number of the classes. All the teachers I've taken classes from have extensive knowledge of yoga and physiology, and go out of their way help students practice poses in ways that are best for them, based on flexibility, previous injuries, back problems, etc. These people know their stuff!
The instructors are superbly well trained. In addition, I have never heard them bashing other yoga studios across the city or individual yoga instructors affiliated with other studios. They support people, and they practice what they teach. They give quality individual attention in their classes as well as manage group dynamics. I have been going to Unity Woods for ten years after trying other teachers and places around the city. Unity Woods is a quality, well run yoga studio with caring instructors and a reliable schedule. Respectfully submitted, Dodie Brady
I trust the teachers at Unity Woods because they are incredibly experienced and knowledgeable.
Professionalism, special workshops, striving for excellence in their craft, and top notch staff.
Unity Woods offers Iyengar yoga classes by excellent teachers and an accomplished Director. My teacher's classes are never the same and never dull even after 8 years. The teachers convey an art that goes beyond country borders to an international standard. I have learned the infinite possibilities for movement and exercise and find yoga helps one stay young.
The teachers are fabulous, whatever class I take, I find each teacher unique and simply excellent.
Unity Woods Yoga Center and its phenomenally trained staff helped me prepare to bring my newborn baby into this world. I took the prenatal class to prepare and it helped me through labor. Now I take the parent/baby yoga class and it has changed both of our lives....the breathing methods helped me through post-delivery pain, and now they help me to calm myself and baby. I feel stronger as a person, both physically and emotionally.
All the teachers are extremely experienced. My teacher, Liz, has been to India twice to study under Mr. Iyangar. She's been patient, gentle and helpful while getting me to work hard. I have had nothing but great experiences since starting at Unity Woods 5 years ago. VA
They have the best teachers. They are knowledgeable, compassionate, dedicated and passionate about their yoga. Great front desk/line staff who answer questions. It's affordable and has a well stocked boutique with books/clothes and props for yoga. As a student i look forward to my asana class each week - it is the highlight of my week - and the studio brings in the leading yoga teachers from all over the world to conduct workshops. It is simply the best yoga center in the country and is one of the major reasons I will not relocate - thank you John Schumacher
The teachers are clearly well-trained and can adapt classes to suit just about anyone. Their knowledge of anatomy and physiology is astounding, as is the depth and breadth of their Yoga education.
The approach of yoga being a lifestyle, the great teachers, the learning tools, the students, the guest teachers...
I love this yoga studio! The teachers are committed and bring a great presence to the business. Definitely my favorite.
Knowledgable and disciplined teachers. Convenient schedules and locations. personal attention during classes.
Unity Woods is the best Yoga Center in Washington because the owner and principal teacher, John Schumacher, is a highly ethical, well trained, certified Iyengar Yoga teacher. With few exceptions, each of his teachers have been trained by John over a period of many years before being given the opportunity to teach at the school. The teachers are experienced, dedicated practitioners in their own right. Teachers, once certified, are encouraged to continue studying with John and other senior teachers both in the U.S.A. and in India with the Iyengar family. As important as professional credentials are, the most important reason I love Unity Woods is because of the people (teachers and students) that form the Yoga community there. It is a nourishing, safe and fun place to do Yoga.
Teachers are constantly observing their students and suggesting ways to improve or adjust according to particular limitations.
Great attentive teachers who are really devoted to the practice and to their students!
Highly trained, experienced, and professional teachers; a wide variety of teachers so that you can find one to match every learning style. Emphasis on perfecting form so that practice can be done at home without injury.
John Schumacher, Director of Unity Woods, is one of the most renowned yoga teachers internationally in the Iyengar tradition. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to study with him. His instruction, his knowlege of yoga as well as his own mastery of yoga is of such high quality. He personally apprentices each of the teachers who work in his studio on an individual basis and so quality in their teaching is nourished. Each teacher in Unity Woods brings their own individual slant on the Iyengar
clean, organized, and efficient studio. Best authentic yoga instructors. Offering continuous curriculum and workshops all year round.
Every instructor at Unity Woods is an expert in the Iyengar method of Yoga. They help students perform exercises correctly at all stages of Yoga. They give students individual attention, adapting routines to fit the needs of people with back, neck, shoulder pains, etc., so they get the benefit of a pose without aggravating a problem. I feel part of a family there. I can't imagine learning Yoga anywhere else.
I've been taking yoga for 8 years, and Unity Woods instructors are by far the most knowledgeable. Not only about the asanas, but about the human anatomy as well. Alignment, balance and the students' well being are of the utmost importance.
I'm new, but very impressed. Everybody at Unity Woods is knowledgeable and nurturing. One of their goals is to help you achieve the pose to your best ability so you can improve to the point of being able to fully achieve the final form of the pose.
The quality of attention given, the gentle firmness of the teaching, the understanding and guiding given to those of us like me, not super flexible.
They offer free classes to introduce you to Iyengar yoga and they have THE BEST teachers. Very in tune with their classes and each other.
The teacher's are knowledgeable and caring. The atmosphere is friendly and the instruction is rigorous but understanding.
I've been practicing yoga for over four years and Unity Woods by far is the best!!!
detail detail detail....the focus is on the small things that can make yoga a true experience and not just another workout.
John Schumacher, the founder and director of Unity Woods Yoga Centers, is an extraordinary yoga teacher, learner, thinker, writer, and mentor who, through his long-established practice, has inspired students and teachers to pay attention to that quiet place within themselves and to incorporate a physical, mental, and spiritual practice into their lives.
Large number of classes and instructors. Flexible class make-up policy. Convenient location. Systematic and effective approach and methods.
Excellent teachers, genuine concern for the health and well-being of all students.
I am temporarily handicapped, due to my right lower extremity. My instructor, named Jill, in my Gentile Class works very well with me. After, I leave her class at Unity Woods Yoga Center, my energy level is generally very high.
